The crowd began to gather in front of Buckingham Palace on Thursday afternoon when they learned of the Queen's worrying state of health.

It is 9:30 p.m. this Thursday evening in London.

The facade of Buckingham Palace is all lit up.

In front of the railings, the faces are dark.

The tears flow.

The crowd keeps growing.

The British are there to mourn their Sovereign.

Despite the pouring rain, nothing stops those who come to meditate.

They lay roses, words, messages of support and recognition, candles.

Flowers begin to scatter the ground.

“Nothing will ever be the same again,” sobs Maggie, who comes from the south of the capital to drop off a colorful bouquet in tribute to the outfits of the late Queen.
