(ANSA) - ROME, SEPTEMBER 10 - "Budget policies must be prudent next year. Our first objective remains debt sustainability. We must ensure that public debt actually falls".

The vice president of the EU Commission, Valdis Dombrovskis, said in a press conference, confirming that the EU executive will make its proposals on the reform of the Stability Pact towards the end of October.

Among the other priority objectives of the Commission, he added, "there is attention to investments, in particular those linked to the green transition and defense".

"On the broad lines" of the reform of the Stability Pact "there is broad convergence. The devil is in the details", said again the vice president of the EU Commission, speaking at the end of the Ecofin in Prague.

When asked whether the revision of the Stability Pact could be feasible by the end of the year, "it is feasible - replied Dombrovskis - but it depends on how quickly consensus will be reached among the member states".
