The Franco-Swiss director, father of the New Wave, who died on Tuesday at the age of 91, resorted to assisted suicide, said

The Franco-Swiss filmmaker Jean-Luc Godard, who died on Tuesday at the age of 91, had recourse to assisted suicide, said his family adviser.

"Mr. Godard had recourse to legal assistance in Switzerland for voluntary departure following

multiple disabling pathologies,

according to the terms of the medical report", explained Patrick Jeanneret.

The father of the New Wave died "peacefully" at his home in the small town of Rolle, Switzerland, his family said in a statement.
