Charles III's last message
to his mother

Between the garden roses, the geraniums, between the hydrangeas and dahlias lies this white card.
It's a final greeting from King Charles III.
to his late mother Elizabeth II. The lettering is barely legible, kept short and to the point.
On the card, under the caption 'Buckingham Palace', it reads 'In loving and devoted memory, Charles R.'
Charles R.« The »R.« stands for Rex, the Latin word for »king«.
The loving gesture follows a tradition within the royal family.
At Prince Philip's funeral in April 2021, the Queen also placed a handwritten note in the white flowers that crowned her husband's coffin.
In a sentimental gesture, the monarch signed the card “Lilibet” – her childhood nickname.
Also unforgettable is the card from William and Harry that lay on their mother Diana's coffin in 1997.
