(ANSA) - TEHRAN, 09 OCT - Two members of the Iranian security forces were killed last night during the protests for the death of Mahsa Amini: the state media reported today.

A wave of unrest has rocked Iran since the 22-year-old Kurd died on September 16 after being arrested by Tehran's moral police for allegedly violating the Islamic Republic's strict women's dress code.

The riots resulted in dozens of deaths, mainly among demonstrators but also among the security forces.

A member of the Iranian paramilitary Basij militia linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps died last night "after sustaining a serious head injury following an armed attack by a mob" in the south of the capital, state news agency Irna reported.

A member of the Revolutionary Guards, the agency adds, was killed during the protests in Sanandaj, the capital of the Kurdistanda province where Amini came from.

According to local media, the number of Iranian security forces killed since the start of the protests more than three weeks ago rises to at least 14.
