A soldier from the United Nations peacekeeping force “MINUSMA” died today of his wounds, bringing the number of victims of an improvised explosive device attack in northern Mali to four UN soldiers.

"A fourth soldier was killed when their vehicle collided with an explosive device during a patrol to search and detect mines in Tessalit in the Kidal region of northern Mali," the United Nations Mission in Mali, MINUSMA, said in a statement today.

Immediately after the incident yesterday, it was announced that two soldiers were killed and four others were wounded from the United Nations peacekeeping forces, MINUSMA, while the third died later in the hospital.

Minusma noted that improvised explosive devices have killed 74 of its members in Mali since it began its mission in 2013.

Mali has been witnessing instability and attacks since 2012 in the presence of armed terrorist groups affiliated with Al-Qaeda and (ISIS), and they are active in the Triangle border area with Niger and Burkina Faso.
