Music, video: why the streaming giants are raising their prices

DECRYPTION – After Disney+, Amazon, Netflix or Spotify, Apple is the last of the big players to increase its prices.

To access Apple's streaming services, consumers are going to have to pay more.

On Monday, the iPhone maker announced that the monthly subscription to Apple TV+ went from 4.99 euros to 6.99 euros, an increase of 40%.

That of Apple Music increases by 1 euro, to 11.99 euros.

As for its Apple One bundle, which brings together Apple Music, Apple Arcade, Apple TV +, iCloud, and Fitness +, it will cost 3 euros more in its family version.

This is the first time that Apple has raised the price of its most popular streaming services.

In a statement, the company justified the increase in its music package as an

"increase in licensing costs"

that will allow artists and songwriters to earn more.

Good news for the shares of Warner Music and Universal Music, which jumped 5% and 10% respectively.

For its part, Apple TV + was launched

“at a very low price”,

in November 2019, for lack of being able to offer a very extensive catalog of programs.
