The Spanish defender, accompanied by his wife and son on the shelves of a store, was stabbed in the back by an unbalanced man who fatally injured another person.

Spanish footballer Pablo Mari, injured Thursday by an imbalance who led a knife attack near Milan, will be operated on Friday, said his club Monza (Serie A).

Hit in the back, the 29-year-old central defender, on loan from Arsenal this summer, was hospitalized on Thursday evening but was conscious and able to speak.

He will be operated on Friday, AC Monza told AFP, confirming press reports.

Thursday afternoon, the player was shopping with his wife and son in a hypermarket in Assago, on the outskirts of Milan (North) when a man visibly suffering from psychiatric disorders attacked several people with a knife, killing an employee and injuring the player and four other seriously affected people.

The attacker, a 46-year-old Italian, was arrested.

In a tweet posted on Thursday evening, the Arsenal club sent their thoughts to the player and other victims, adding: "
