Until very recently, Josip Ilicic was considered one of the best players in Italy.
The Slovenian striker made 47 appearances in Atalanta's uniform between 2017 and 2022 and his peak came with the four that he scored against Valencia in the Champions League two and a half years ago in the crazy 3:4.
However, since contracting Corona, Ilicic became depressed and suffered from psychological problems that brought him back home, to Slovenia, where he signed for the local Maribor team.
Ilicic, now 34 and carrying a few extra pounds, came on as a 77th-minute substitute in the league game against Mora on Sunday and immediately made his mark.
He recorded some technical moves that are hardly seen in this league and towards the end (89) with a slalom inside the box he squeezed a penalty, which he himself kicked into the high net and received a lot of love from his new friends.
He only played fifteen minutes, but managed to make a mark.

Ilicic is at the end of a very impressive career, mostly in Italy.
He started his career in Palermo and made his breakthrough in Fiorentina, in whose ranks he starred between 2013 and 2017.
He also has 79 appearances and 16 goals for Slovenia.
By the way, Maribor started the season very badly and is 19 points away from the leading Ljubljana, but with Ilicic they hope to reduce the gap.
