Portugal: from its own surface, the incredible goal of the goalkeeper of the B team of Benfica

The Benfica reserve goalkeeper in the Portuguese 2nd division made a fabulous gesture on Monday by contributing to the victory of his team

His name does not sound familiar.

And yet since Monday, Samuel Soares has been talked about in his country Portugal, and on social networks.

In a match of the Liga Vitalis, the second level in Portugal where the reserve teams can play, this 20-year-old goalkeeper achieved a real feat.

In the closing match of the 12th day on Monday, he allowed his team, the reserve of Benfica Lisbon to equalize on the ground of Trofa.

Led in the score since the 32nd minute by the local team of Trofense, the Portuguese goalkeeper inherits a ball just in front of his penalty area.

Samuel Soares then tries an absolutely crazy gesture.

He unleashes an unreal shot a hundred meters from the opposing goal.

The ball rises in the areas and then falls on the crossbar.

On the ground, Trofense goalkeeper Miguel Santos sees the ball bounce off him and enter his own goal.

We then play the 65th minute and the Benfica reserve manages to equalize on this stroke of genius.

Seventeen minutes later, the reserves of Benfica, where former Messin Lenny Lacroix (19 years old) plays, snatch the victory on a goal from Luis Semedo (1-2).

A success that allows Benfica to remain third in a championship dominated by Moreirense and to be ahead of the Porto reserve, fourth.

Samuel Soares arrived at Benfica in November 2020 and has so far never played a single second in Liga Sagres, the Portuguese first division.

Ironically, the goal is not attributed to Samuel Soares but to Trofense goalkeeper, Miguel Santos, author of an own goal.

In the statistics, this stroke of genius never appeared but it will long be remembered by Benfica supporters.
