A 5.6 magnitude earthquake rocked western Nepal on Wednesday (November 9th), sending shock waves as far as India, the US Institute of Geophysics (USGS) announced.

Its epicenter was near Dipayal (Nepal), 340 km west of Kathmandu, at a depth of 15 km, according to the USGS.

The quake struck at 2 a.m. Wednesday (2030 GMT Tuesday) and was felt across northern India.

Residents of India's capital New Delhi posted videos on social media erecting swaying lamps and quake-shaking palisades.

The Indian National Seismology Center reported a magnitude 6.3 earthquake.

No significant damage has been reported at this time and the USGS has assessed the likelihood of casualties to be low.

Western Nepal had already been shaken by a magnitude 4.8 earthquake at a depth of 10 km a few hours earlier, around 9:00 p.m. (3:30 p.m. GMT).
