(ANSA) - BRAZIL, NOV 11 - The Brazilian environmental leader, Marina Silva, said that John Kerry, the United States representative for the climate, has expressed interest in collaborating with the Amazon Fund.

The latter, created by Norway and Germany in 2008, funds sustainable development projects and monitors deforestation in tropical forest.


    "I talked to John Kerry about the possibility of the United States increasing the appropriations for the Amazon Fund and I agreed that he is in talks with Norway and Germany on the basis of joint projects," the former Environment Minister told GloboNews, who next week will participate in COP27 in Egypt with the elected president of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lulada Silva.


    "The US government welcomes the change of position (on the environment) and shows a willingness to increase cooperation," added Silva, according to whom "President JoeBiden welcomes the opportunity to deepen the agenda with President-elect Lula. ".


    "People see President Lula's commitment to fighting climate change and forest conservation, and this makes investments come in," Silva concluded.
