Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov announced today that Russian President Vladimir Putin has given an order to demobilize university students in Donetsk and Lugansk, and return them to study after they were called up to the Russian army.

"Currently, the police and the people's army forces in Donetsk and Luhansk are being merged with the Russian military forces after the two republics join the sovereignty of Russia," Peskov was quoted as saying by Sputnik news agency.

He added, "Putin issued instructions to demobilize university students and return them to studies after they were called up to the armed forces in the context of the partial mobilization in the country," noting that "the demobilized students will be sent home to continue their education."

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu had previously confirmed that the partial military mobilization includes only those with combat experience, and that 300,000 soldiers will be called up during it.

Shoigu stated at the time that partial mobilization is necessary in the first place to control the 1,000-kilometre line of contact and the liberated lands, and that the students and all those who serve in the conscription will not be sent to the special operations area.
