US presenter Jay Leno injured by severe burns

Jay Leno loves cars and motorcycles and turned his passion for collecting into a TV show. Now one of his vehicles caught fire, the US presenter was seriously injured.

Former Late Night presenter Jay Leno, 72, says he has suffered severe burns.

He suffered this from a gasoline fire, Leno said on Monday, according to US media.

"I'm okay.

Just need a week or two to get back on my feet," Variety quoted Leno's message as saying.

According to the Reuters news agency, Leno suffered burns on the left side of his face, but his eye and ear were not seriously damaged.

Leno is said to have been injured in his garage in Los Angeles on Sunday, the TMZ.com portal found out.

Accordingly, one of his vehicles had suddenly caught fire.

The TV star was taken to a hospital with burns on his face, it said.

Leno is known as a passionate collector of cars and motorcycles.

From 2015, his column "Jay Leno's Garage" for the magazine "Popular Mechanics" became a TV show that Leno moderates.

He is one of the most successful talk show hosts in the USA.

The comedian hosted the popular »Tonight Show« until 2014.
