(ANSA) - SHARM EL-SHEIKH, NOVEMBER 19 - An agreement has been reached on the fund to compensate for the losses and damages caused by global warming at COP27 in Sharm el Sheikh.

ANSA learns it from diplomatic sources.

However, the overall final document of COP27 is not yet closed, the source explains.

The European Union will still ask for some improvement on climate change mitigation (ie on commitments to cut greenhouse gas emissions and keep global warming within 1.5 degrees of pre-industrial levels).

At 21 local time (20 in Italy) a plenary assembly is scheduled.

On the loss and damage chapter, the European Union has obtained that the document indicate that the recipients of aid are the most vulnerable countries, and not all developing countries (among which there are also superpowers such as China and India).

The document also includes a mention of the enlargement of the donor base: it is another request from the EU, which also wants China and other emerging countries to pay contributions to the fund.
