The patrol team of the Enforcement and Control Team of the Kowloon East Regional Traffic Department carried out an operation to combat dangerous driving and drink driving in the area at about 1:00 am today (22nd).

During the operation, the police officers found a private car speeding along the northbound Kwun Tong Bypass near the Hoi Bun Road Park, overtaking several times during the process, ignoring the safety of other road users, and stopped for investigation.

After preliminary investigation, a 34-year-old local male driver surnamed Liang failed the alcohol breath test and was arrested on suspicion of "dangerous driving" and "drink driving".

The male driver has been released on bail pending further investigation and must report to the police in mid-December.

Police reiterated that dangerous driving behavior seriously endangers the safety of other road users.

Offenders, upon conviction, face a maximum penalty of three years' imprisonment and a fine of HK$25,000.

If it is the first conviction, it can be suspended for at least 6 months, and if it is convicted again, it can be suspended for at least two years. In addition, it is necessary to take a driving improvement course and score 10 points for driving violations.

The Police will continue to step up law enforcement to crack down on serious traffic violations on the roads, so as to ensure the smooth flow of roads and the safety of road users.
