Regulations and taxation amputate the purchasing power of the French

INFO LE FIGARO – An unpublished study by the Molinari Economic Institute (IEM) quantifies the net loss for a French household at nearly 4,300 euros per year due to an excess of standards.

At the center of the debates during the last presidential campaign, the question of purchasing power turns to obsession for the government which fears a new movement of "yellow vests" in this context of energy crisis and galloping inflation.

After two years of the Covid crisis, there is no question of skimping on the means to reduce the standard of living of French households with more than 110 billion euros committed between 2021 and 2023. Energy check, inflation allowance, fuel check, fuel allowance… the short-term and costly check book policy does not provide structural solutions to improve taxpayers' end of month.

However, heavy regulations and high taxation reduce the purchasing power of an average household by no less than 4,300 euros per year compared to the European average,
