He "skipped" Midnight Mass because of an incorrectly set alarm clock, and made his waiting faithful worry, last night, mgr.

Corrado Pizziolo, bishop of Vittorio Veneto (Treviso).

The prelate himself revealed the unexpected event during the Mass of the Day, celebrated yesterday.

"Last night - he said - I almost gave you a 'shock'. There was mass at 12pm, at 9pm I had finished nibbling something and got into an armchair, and I told myself to set an alarm clock. instead of putting it in at 10.50 pm, I put it in at 10.50, so it didn't ring. At one point I hear a knock, and an assistant had come, worried that I had taken a stroke...".

The faithful laughed and applauded the bishop, who apologized and said that "we must not be horrified by our slumbers and our weaknesses".

For the record, the Midnight Mass was celebrated by Don Mirco Miotto, director of the diocesan liturgical office.
