In 2022, 924,000 asylum applications were registered in the EU, or three times the approximately 330,000 illegal arrivals in the EU.

"Those who have the right to international protection must be protected, those who don't have it must return to their country of origin: this is the only way to protect the system and therefore we must increase the number of repatriations".
