Malawi appealed to the World Health Organization to provide it with about 7 million doses of cholera vaccine, after the number of infections exceeded 30 thousand cases, from which more than a thousand patients died.

And the Associated Press quoted a source in the Malawian Ministry of Health as saying: There is no indication that Malawi will receive the vaccine anytime soon, because many other countries are also pressing the World Health Organization on the same issue.

The plea for more cholera shots comes as Malawi continues to record an increase in cases that has now affected all of its 29 districts.

The World Health Organization supported Malawi for the first time with 3.9 million doses of oral cholera vaccine last May, after an outbreak was reported in March.
