CHRONICLE - Such a decision would no doubt have strong political resonance, particularly among groups still imbued with the Marxist superego.

Basically, isn't the government asking the unfortunate wage earners to work harder to save the rich from a tax turn?

It did not take long for the debate on pension reform – admittedly very badly put together by the executive – to turn in this direction.

The NGO Oxfam offers in its latest report a turnkey solution to help the president get back on his feet: tax 2% of the 42 French billionaires in order to recover the 12 billion euros needed for retirement.

More ambitious, the rebellious François Ruffin suggests taking 2% of the stock market fortune of the “

very rich

” in order to finance retirement at 60.

With each new reform in France, such injunctions flourish.

Their absence would have almost missed the debate.

This year, these proposals take on a special meaning because they come at a time of intense international questioning about inequalities and the place of the wealthiest in society.
