Spectacular wreck shots: The first pictures of the "Titanic" after it sank

These video images were locked away for four decades: they show the most famous of all shipwrecks on the bottom of the Atlantic. Now they are being released – coinciding with the 25th anniversary of the Hollywood film.

New old pictures: These pictures show the wreck of the Titanic that sank in 1912.

They were filmed in 1986.

The research facility "Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution" had kept the pictures under lock and key until today.

These were the first recordings that were made after the sinking of the »Titanic« in 1912.

A research group was only able to locate the shipwreck in the mid-1980s.

The wreck of the ship that sank in 1912 lies at a depth of around 3800 meters in the North Atlantic.

The Titanic collided with an iceberg on its maiden voyage and sank.

More than 1500 people died.
