Macron wants to redefine the military system in Africa

INVESTIGATION – On the eve of his tour of several countries on the continent, the president announced a change in the French presence.

Two days before a long tour in Central Africa, Emmanuel Macron delivered, Monday evening, his vision of what will be French policy vis-à-vis the continent during these last four years of mandate.

While Paris is more criticized than ever in the countries of the former square, to the point of sometimes being chased away, the President of the Republic is trying to react.

Several axes have been sketched out to restore the tarnished tricolor coat of arms, but the main effort will focus on the security dimension.

Emmanuel Macron thus announced a vast "

redevelopment

" of French military bases in Africa as a symbol of a

"new security partnership"

, this traditional pillar of Françafrique.

Although the details have yet to be clarified, none of the establishments in West Africa (Senegal, Ivory Coast) or in Central Africa (Gabon, Chad) should be completely closed.

That of Djibouti is not concerned, affirmed the president.
