The Colombian Attorney General's Office reported that an investigation is underway within the National Police for the violent confrontations that took place this Thursday between members of the security forces and peasants in San Vicente del Caguan, in the department of the Caqueta.

Through a statement, the Public Ministry confirmed that a prior inquiry was opened within the institution for "alleged lack of support for other members."

These investigations indicate that, during the demonstrations this Thursday, some members of the National Police had requested support through radio communications, but that assistance never came.

“For what could facilitate the retention of several men and even the events that caused the death of two of them.

The Public Ministry maintained that it is necessary to clear up the doubt about who or who could be the officials involved in the conduct under investigation," the document details.

The Attorney General's Office will carry out tests to identify the possible agents involved in disciplinary offenses.

The National Police has not ruled so far on the tax investigation.

CNN is seeking a reaction from the agency.

However, hours earlier in a video broadcast through his official Twitter account, the National Police called for unity among its members and offered condolences after the officer's death in the Caquetá region.

"A house divided against itself will collapse... that is why more than ever we must be united."
