(ANSA) - LARISSA, 06 MAR - The station master implicated in the railway disaster in Greece has been placed in custody in prison.

The station master, 59, allegedly told the investigators that he had been left alone at the station for a long time.

His lawyer, Stefanos Pantzardzidis, said that for 20 minutes the man was solely responsible for railway safety for the whole of central Greece.

Kathimerini's website reports it.

In particular, the station master argued that according to the regulation, other colleagues should have been with him on the night of the accident until 11.00 pm, who instead would have left the station earlier, leaving him alone.

Judicial sources reported it.

Meanwhile, Hellenic Train employees have declared a new 24-hour strike for today.

Workers have been on strike since Wednesday, and suburban rail links in Athens are also affected in today's disruptions.
