Stuttgart - According to the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) and the Frankfurt Public Prosecutor's Office, there are a large number of fraud offenses in online trading, data spying, data stolen goods and money laundering.

The searches took place on Tuesday at a total of 58 suspects.

The investigations focused on the criminal sales platform "Genesis Market", through which, among other things, stolen access data for various e-commerce and online payment services were sold.

"Genesis Market" was the world's largest such platform on the Darknet.

The dark web is a hidden part of the internet that is often used by criminals.

The platform has existed since 2018 and was confiscated and shut down by US authorities on Tuesday.

The data was spied out with malware from private computers, said the Central Office for Combating Internet Crime (ZIT), which is based at the Frankfurt Public Prosecutor's Office.

The 58 suspects are suspected buyers of the data.

The investigators had secured numerous electronic data carriers, which were now being evaluated.

Baden-Württemberg's Interior Minister Thomas Strobl (CDU) praised the cooperation between the individual authorities.

The state has a clear focus on cyber security: the State Criminal Police Office has its own department for “Cybercrime and Digital Traces” with currently around 130 employees.

"Criminal inspections specializing in cybercrime have been set up across the board in all regional police headquarters," Strobl explained.
