(ANSA) - SOLDANO, APRIL 05 - After a few hours of agony, a 53-year-old woman attacked by her brother's Rottweiler died.
The incident took place in the afternoon in Strada Fullavin, in Soldano, in the hinterland of Vallecrosia (Imperia).
The victim's name was Patrizia La Marca.
The alarm was raised by some neighbors who had heard the woman's screams.
To allow for help, the carabinieri were forced to shoot the dog, wounding it, because it did not allow it to approach the woman.
Medical personnel, firefighters and ambulance services attended the scene.
The doctors of the Santa Corona hospital in Pietra Ligure (Savona), where the woman was hospitalized in critical condition, tried to keep her alive, but the wounds were too devastating: she had suffered injuries to the head, abdomen, shoulders and in the arms.
The woman, cousin of regional councilor Veronica Russo, had been taking care of the dog for days with her brother on vacation and it seems that the attack took place just as the fifty-year-old was taking care of her.
Investigations are underway to reconstruct the tragedy and understand what was the trigger for the attack.
The dog could be put down.
