Western outcry after Emmanuel Macron's faux pas on Taiwan

The French president believes that Europe must not allow itself to be drawn "into crises which are not its own".

As in 2019 with his sentence on the "

brain death

 " of NATO, Emmanuel Macron triggered, on his return from China, a storm among his allies, who accuse him of breaking transatlantic solidarity.

By fearing, in front of journalists, that Europe would find itself "

dragged into crises that are not its own"

such as in Taiwan, and start

"following American policy, by a kind of panic reflex"

, the President French, who has always defended a

"third way"

for the continent

in the region, casts doubt on France's attitude in the event of a Chinese war in Taiwan.

“The question posed to us Europeans is the following.

Do we have an interest in speeding up the subject of

Taiwan

?

No.

The worst thing would be to think that we Europeans should follow suit on this subject and adapt to the American rhythm and a Chinese overreaction.

The French president also said that Europe must reduce its dependence on the United States
