End of the primaries: Éric Ciotti stays the course

The President of the Republicans remains faithful to his project, despite the hostility of personalities from his party who are maneuvering to impose other scenarios.

It was a campaign promise from Eric Ciotti before he became president of the Republicans.

Once elected, he insisted, the first support of Laurent Wauquiez would oppose any form of primary and would quickly organize things to change the method of appointing the next right-wing presidential candidate.

After four months of complicated piloting, the head of the LR confirms with Le

Figaro

that he will stay the course, against all odds:

“I have always said and I say it again today: the primaries seem to me a machine to lose for our political family.

In the coming months, I will therefore submit a reform of our statutes to abolish these primaries.

For him, the political calendar guided by the social crisis linked to the pension reform leads LR to postpone

“a few weeks”

the consultation planned to revise the statutes.
