REPORT - In Villaines-les-Rochers, Catherine Romand is reinventing the know-how of wickerwork, as evidenced by her collaboration with the historic Belgian leather goods manufacturer, Delvaux.

Catherine Romand's speaking rate is as fast as her fingers which move tirelessly, weaving, according to a secret artisanal algorithm, strands of wicker and strands of leather.

This is how a delicate basket, as thin as it is resistant, takes shape before our eyes, the fruit of its collaboration with Delvaux.

The famous leather goods maker, "patented supplier to the Royal Court of Belgium", has indeed commissioned the basket maker to reinterpret in wicker its best-selling game bag, created in 1972, the Pin.

The challenge is daunting.

“It is very important to highlight this know-how of basketry which is gradually disappearing

, explains the almost sixty-year-old.

So when the Delvaux team came to see me, we had a big discussion on this subject: I wanted real collaboration, and not for the basket weavers to remain in the shadows.
