(ANSA) - BRUSSELS, APRIL 14 - The Dutch Cabinet has decided to make euthanasia possible for very sick children who have run out of treatment options, in line with the proposals published by Health Minister Ernst Kuipers last year.

Kuipers told MPs that he intends to extend and revise the protocol, so far only valid for newborns, to also cover children aged 12 and under who are in unbearable pain and for whom palliative care options are not sufficient to relieve symptoms .
According to the ministry, the guidelines will cover between 5 and 10 children a year.
