As many as 640, distributed on 17 boats, the migrants landed yesterday in Lampedusa which suddenly found itself once again in an emergency.

And another 179 rescued, after midnight, while traveling on four carts.

In total 21 landings with 819 people within 24 hours.

The harbor master's and financial police patrol boats struggle to collect all the SOS and rescue the many small boats that are reported in the Sar area or in the waters in front of the island.

The flurry of landings, which began late yesterday morning, is being recorded after a four-day stop due to bad sea conditions.

All the migrants who landed were taken to the contrada Imbriacola hotspot where, at dawn, there were 1,094 guests, compared to just under 400 places available.

Yesterday morning, 315 people were present in the first reception facility.
