Will Europe fare as well next winter on the gas front as it did last winter?
The International Energy Agency (IEA) again takes stock of the issue in a report published on Thursday.
Western sanctions following Russia's invasion of Ukraine prompted Moscow to drastically reduce its gas supplies to the European Union, down 80% by the end of 2022. This triggered a global gas supply crisis.
But the EU, particularly concerned, coped with it better than expected.
While
global gas consumption fell by 1.5% in 2022, as much as in 2020 after the first Covid-19 lockdowns, demand in almost all EU Member States fell by around 16%, or 55 billion m3 during the winter of 2022-2023, indicates the Paris-based agency.
