A Kentucky man with a long string of crimes was sentenced to 14 years in prison for pepper spraying cops during the January 6, 2021 storming of Capitol Hill.

This is the heaviest penalty so far imposed for the uprising in Congress.

Peter Schwartz, a welder by profession, took part in the revolt with his wife.

The investigators had asked for 24 years and six months in prison.

The judge who sentenced him, Amit Mehta, is the same one who handed down the previous heaviest sentence: 10 years to a retired New York police officer who attacked another officer outside Capitol Hill on January 6 two years ago .
