Hydrogeological instability, mayor Chieti closes two schools

(ANSA) - CHIETI, 26 MAY - The mayor of Chieti, DiegoFerrara, in the afternoon signed an ordinance closing the school complexes of the Vicentini-Della Porta and Corradi primary schools for problems related to the hydrogeological instability of the area.
A precautionary measure, reads a note from the Municipality, to protect public safety, due to the particular danger of the area already known for years and validated by studies and surveys carried out in the last period. "This is a considered and necessary decision, inevitable, in the greatest interest of children, young people, staff and families, because it is dictated by technical and geophysical conditions of the area where the two schools are located and matured as a result of close comparisons with the regional civil protection and with the working group that we have activated in synergy with the University of Annunzio".
"We decided to act immediately - explains Ferrara - preparing the closure of the complexes from tomorrow, Saturday 27 May, and until the restoration of the safety conditions of the buildings and the surrounding environment, with the suspension of educational activities until Tuesday 30 May, to be located in other locations until the end of the current year".
"The one provided for by the ordinance - adds the mayor - is a necessary stop to prepare the continuation of teaching elsewhere, having arrived a few days after the closure of the school, and also being affected middle school classes that will not be able to stop because they will have to face the end-ofcycle exams". The Abruzzo Region and the Prefecture are also interested in the fulfillment of the case. (ANSA).
