A political source responded Sunday evening to the announcement of the development of the gas field off the coast of Gaza, saying that the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip would not benefit from it "as long as there is no progress on the issue of prisoners and missing persons."

The Prime Minister's Office announced this morning that it had instructed the development of the Marin gas field off the coast of the Gaza Strip. The revenues from the gas field will go to the coffers of the Palestinian Authority.

The diplomatic source said: "The Egyptians will issue the gas. The royalties will go directly to the Authority. Gaza is out of the picture. Gaza will not benefit from this as long as there is no progress on the issue of prisoners and missing persons."

The gas reservoir was discovered in 2000, but since then Israel has not taken practical steps to allow the field to develop due to the conflict with the Palestinian Authority and Hamas. Now, as a gesture to the Biden administration, it is believed that the green light has been given to start the project.

Hadar Goldin's father, Simcha Goldin, also demonstrated outside the cabinet meeting this morning and criticized the intention to develop the gas field without returning the prisoners and missing persons.
