Reaping the fruits of the agreement: Minister of Health and Interior Moshe Arbel met last night in New York with the President of the UN General Assembly, Mr. Chaba Qureshi, on the issue of global preparedness for dealing with epidemics.
The meeting held in the president's office at the UN headquarters in New York was also attended by Israel's Ambassador to the UN Gilad Erdan, who is leading the resolution, as well as the head of the Health Ministry's Government Hospitals Division, Dr. David Dagan.
Minister Arbel thanked the President for appointing Erdan alongside Morocco's Ambassador to the UN, Omar Hilal, to lead and coordinate the negotiations and the high-level meeting on epidemic preparedness and prevention, which will take place this September at the UN General Assembly.

Minister Arbel noted Erdan's great professionalism in leading the first resolution ever led by Israel in the General Assembly, and added that he sees great importance in the professionalism of the process and its success is a top priority.
"COVID-19 has taught us about cooperation"
Minister Arbel noted to President Qureshi the fruitful cooperation between Israel and Morocco and the agreement on health signed in Rabat with the Minister of Health of Morocco, Prof. Khaled Ait Taleb, last Friday.
Erdan also presented the president with the Israeli health system as a trailblazer both in its employment diversity, which includes people of all faiths, and in the exceptional coping of the Israeli health system with the COVID-19 pandemic.

"The COVID-19 pandemic has taught us the importance of promoting real-time data-driven decisions and cooperation between countries," said Minister Arbel. "In a globalized world, viruses do not distinguish borders between countries, so the UN General Assembly is the most natural venue for advancing strategic processes to deal with epidemic prevention."
He added: "I thank the President of the UN General Assembly for his vote of confidence in the State of Israel, together with the Moroccan government, to head the team to promote the significant processes that will lead to saving lives."
