The plague of motorcycle accidents: Gili Oz, 46, from Herzliya, married with three children, owner of a motorcycle garage in the city, was killed on Monday in a self-driving accident while riding in the north. According to Or Yarok, since the beginning of the year, 38 motorcyclists and scooters have been killed.

Oz was riding on Route 667 near Kibbutz Merav in Gilboa, and apparently lost control and slipped. An MDA team called to the scene pronounced him dead. MDA emergency medic Daniel Musai said: "When we arrived at the scene, we saw the motorcyclist lying in the middle of the road, unconscious, without a pulse and without breathing, suffering from a multi-system injury. We performed medical tests but unfortunately his injury was critical and we had to pronounce him dead."

Oz was well known in the motorcycle community also due to his ownership of the Gil Oz Motorcycles garage in the Herzliya industrial zone. He was considered a skilled rider and the news of the accident was received with consternation among his friends. One of his friends said: "He was a great rider. He loved motorcycles and knew how to ride them like no one knew. We're just in shock." Another friend added: "He was a motorcycle man. It's hard to fathom that he was killed in a motorcycle accident."

According to data from Or Yarok, motorcyclists and scooters account for 22% of all road accident fatalities since the beginning of the year. Oz is the 38th rider killed this year.
