In a Knesset debate on the law postponing elections for the position of chief rabbis, MK Gilad Kariv of the Labor Party attacked ultra-Orthodox MKs on Wednesday. During his remarks, MK Debbie Biton of Yesh Atid was heard saying that ultra-Orthodox women are "wombs for hire."

Kariv attacked ultra-Orthodox Knesset members in his remarks at the Constitution Committee, saying, among other things: "It's okay for this group for the Torah world to live on the exit of ultra-Orthodox women into the labor market and the public sphere, but God forbid that there should be a religious woman as a local council member."
He said they responded "or a member of a religious council" and Kariv agreed. "Or a religious councilwoman! God forbid you become an ultra-Orthodox Knesset member. It's a bunch of hypocritical men whose hypocrisy is all along."
During his remarks, Biton said: "Womb for rent," referring to ultra-Orthodox women, claiming that this is how haredi elected officials see them.
