American actor, director and author Alan Arkin (Little Miss Sunshine) passed away Friday at his home at the age of 89.
"Our father was an exceptionally talented force of nature, both as an artist and as a person," his son told People magazine after his death. "He was a loving husband and father who we adored and will be greatly missed."

Arkin's career took off in 1966 with the film "The Russians Are Coming, The Russians Are Coming", which earned him his first Oscar nomination for his first leading role.

"The Kominsky Method"
Among his notable films are Lonely in the Dark, Catch-22, Lone Hunter Is the Heart, Edward Scissorhands, Argo, the TV movie Escape from Sobibor and Little Miss Sunshine, which won him an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.
In addition to Arkin's extensive film career, the actor also appeared in several notable series, including Netfix's "The Kominsky Method," which earned him two Emmy nominations for his role alongside Michael Douglas.
