The curtain has come down on one of the iconic sections: cartoonist and illustrator Jackie Jackson passed away on Monday at the age of 86. Jackson edited the mythological section "The Weekly Drawing for a Child. The funeral will be held tomorrow at 18:00, at Ganei Esther Cemetery in Rishon LeZion.
Jackson was born in Jerusalem, and in 1955 enlisted and served in the Nahal. During his service, he was appointed graphic editor of the newspaper "At Camp Nahal" and chief painter of the Nahal troupe. After his discharge from the army, he began working at Yediot newspaper. Among other things, he served as an illustrator, cartoonist and graphic editor in the supplements "7 Days", "7 Nights" and "24 Hours".
During the 60s, Jackie also engaged in graphic design of various types - including, among others, for the Habima Theater, and several album covers, including by Yehoram Gaon, Shoshana Damari and the Ofarim duo.
During his lifetime, Jackson had several exhibitions, and published two books. In 2022, an exhibition dedicated to Jackie's work and "The Weekly Drawing for a Child" was presented as part of the Animics Comics and Animation Festival.
