The abuse at the Lolicat kindergarten: The Beersheba District Court today (Tuesday) convicted Batya Dayan, director of a kindergarten in Kiryat Malachi.
Dayan was convicted of abuse and assault of minors and leaving a toddler unsupervised on more than 50 separate occasions. Dayan confessed to the crimes and was convicted as part of a plea bargain.
As part of a plea bargain, which did not include agreements regarding the punishment, attorney Chen Assis-Lavi filed an amended indictment in which the defendant confessed to the acts.

The amended indictment indicates that during the relevant period, there were 16 toddlers in the kindergarten between the ages of six months and three and a half.
Dayan, being in charge of the toddlers, beat, pushed and pinched them, used excessive force against them and even slammed them to the floor, couch and playpen, leaving them unattended. All this, in front of the other toddlers in the kindergarten.
In addition, Dayan was convicted of offenses of emotional abuse against all the toddlers who were in the kindergarten, because she committed the acts in front of all the children. Among other things, Dayan was convicted in light of the frequency and duration of the acts, the young age of the children, the power gaps, and more.
