A fire in a shopping center located in Meylan (Isère), on the northeastern outskirts of Grenoble, caused significant damage Friday, without causing any casualties, we learned from the prefecture of the department.
About 70 firefighters were mobilized on this violent fire that broke out around 15 p.m. and was being brought under control shortly after 20 p.m., said the prefecture.
Origin of the fire unknown
The structure of the building, which houses bank branches, a restaurant, an optician or a dental office and dates from 1998, did not allow firefighters to enter to fight the fire from the inside. Some 2100 square meters were affected. Those present were evacuated and a security perimeter was quickly set up to protect nearby buildings, including a large Carrefour centre.
Work had recently been carried out on the roof, said the prefecture, while stressing that the origin of the fire remained unknown for the moment.
