The Greek prime minister's announcement comes after tens of thousands were evacuated from various hotels in Rhodes and Corfu, and many were forced to return to their countries with immediate evacuation.

Among the casualties were quite a few British, German and Israeli tourists whose coveted vacation they had waited for a very long time was cut short by the fires.
