Authorities in the state of South Carolina on Tuesday morning located the wreckage of an F-35 fighter jet that crashed after its pilot abandoned it following a malfunction. The wreckage was found in Williamsburg County, northeast of Marine Corps Base Charleston, from where the pilot took off.

The pilot of the plane, who was moderately wounded and evacuated to hospital, managed to escape, but the aircraft continued flying with the help of autopilot and disappeared from conventional means of identification.
