Azerbaijan on Tuesday announced the start of an "anti-terrorism" operation in the predominantly Armenian enclave of Nagorno-Karabakh. According to a statement by the defense ministry in Baku, the aim of the "local counter-terrorism activities" is to "suppress large-scale provocations" and repel "Armenian forces."
The Azeri announcement came after it said that six people - four soldiers and two civilians - had been killed in various mine-detonating incidents in the region, which is recognized by the international community as its territory but partly controlled by Armenian separatists.
