"We could host the Olympic luge races in 2026." This was said by the president of the Thuringian Luge and Bobsleigh Federation, Andreas Minschke, with reference to the German city of Oberhof and in response to the difficulties of Milan-Cortina. As dpa writes, however, the idea would be "illusory" and "without possibilities", "because bobsleigh races cannot take place on the Thuringian track.
The track is not approved for such events" and it is unimaginable that the International Olympic Committee organizes bobsleigh, luge and skeleton competitions on tracks and in different countries. Yesterday, the General Secretary for Germany of the Bobsleigh and Luge Federation, Thomas Schwab, had already stated that the country is not available as a substitute guest for the specific competitions of the 2026 Winter Olympics.
