Israel said the explosion was caused by a faulty rocket launched yesterday at 18:59 p.m. by Islamic Jihad from a nearby cemetery. This was stated by the Israeli military spokesman, Daniel Hagari, at a press conference in which he showed images of last night's events. Israel, he added, also has a recording of a conversation between Palestinian militants that would confirm the launch of a defective rocket. Since the beginning of the conflict, he said, 450 defective Palestinian rockets have exploded inside the Gaza Strip.

The hospital building ''was not hit.'' Damage was detected in the outdoor parking lot, where there are "signs of a fire," Hagari said, based on aerial images. ''There are no craters or damage to surrounding buildings, as would be expected in the event of an airstrike,'' he said.
