All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day commemorate the saints and the dead. Prime Minister Markus Söder is also taking advantage of the holiday – and sharing a very personal message via Instagram.

Nuremberg - On All Saints' Day, Catholics commemorate all deceased saints of their faith – on All Souls' Day, on the other hand, all deceased people. At least that's the theory. In the meantime, the two Christian commemorative days have become intertwined in everyday life and many people use the time to pray for their lost loved ones, to decorate their graves or to light a candle.

Even though he himself is actually a member of the Protestant Church, Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) uses the holiday to share a touching statement about his deceased parents and father-in-law.

Markus Söder shares touching statement on Instagram on All Saints' Day

"On All Souls' Day and All Saints' Day, I think especially of my late parents," Söder wrote on Instagram. His mother died at the age of 56, his father at the age of 72. He reveals: "We are more like our parents than we admit—and they are a part of us and we are a part of them. Therefore, children are also the greatest happiness and perhaps also the true meaning of life."

Even today, the CSU politician sometimes still wishes for advice from them or would simply like to spend time with his parents. He misses both of them. "I also miss my late father-in-law Günter very much. After my father's death, he was a friendly father figure for me, with whom I often consulted," Söder continues. The Bavarian Prime Minister appeals to his readers: "Today we think of all those who have died and keep them in good and painful memory."
