Video: Assessment of the situation held by the IDF Chief of Staff, Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevy, with the commanders and combat forces in the south/IDF Spokesperson
From the moment the ground maneuver into the Gaza Strip began as part of Operation Iron Swords, the Southern Command has faced an extensive logistical challenge through a large number of routes: the safe transfer of fuel, ammunition and military equipment to the forces deep inside Palestinian territory.
"The logistical challenge is great, especially in the initial stages before consolidation in Palestinian territory. There are a variety of threats: anti-tank missiles, IEDs, mines, sea sand, or attacks by IAF fighter jets that violated the ground, created craters and caused destruction," said a senior officer in the Southern Command. "Despite the challenges, we were able to open logistics routes in less than 48 hours from the moment the maneuver began. We are usually used to receiving supplies of fuel, ammunition, and other equipment only after 72 hours."

As the maneuver progresses, the IDF is also trying to pave new logistics routes and avoid using familiar routes to challenge the enemy. "There are bottlenecks, there are more challenging places and there are less, but we have already carried out repairs of vehicles and refueling in enemy territory," the senior officer said, adding, "Above all and most important for us: to shorten the evacuation time of wounded fighters - from the moment of injury until arrival at the hospital. We were already evacuating the wounded in less than an hour. I'm not saying there are no challenges. It is challenging to bring in light vehicles to evacuate the wounded, but our skilled and brave drivers succeed even when it is under fire. Everyone takes risks. This is war."
As part of the war, the IDF General Staff, with an emphasis on the ICT Division, provided resources and systems that enable 24/7 monitoring of the IDF's areas of operation, including heavy drones, which enable visual control from the "pit" in the Kirya in Tel Aviv when an exceptional evacuation of the wounded occurs, or there is a need to use bulldozers, tanks and armored personnel carriers in the field.

Meanwhile, the logistics brigade, under the command of Brigadier General Eli Ezer, continues the process of procurement and procurement of ceramic vests for fighters, which has not yet been completed, alongside preparations for the approaching winter. The IDF purchased a series of inflatable and air-conditioned tents (each tent for 60 people), including personal winter equipment for the fighters on the northern and southern fronts, which are expected to arrive in the coming weeks. It is important to note that at this stage, tens of thousands of reservists in the field sleep in personal tents they brought from home or under the open sky.
